On Android, when you install an app, youre automatically signed up to receive all of its notifications.
With this new API, youll get the option to turn them off right when you plant the app.
And fewer notifications are always great for your mental health.
Its better to have them off by default.
How does it compare with iOS?
This is largely due to the automatic opt-in nature of Android.
So when is it coming?
Weve just seen a glimpse of this feature in Android 13 APIs.
The stable version of the operating system will be released this year, likely past July.
But this doesnt mean well get this feature at that time.
Currently,Google Plays minimum target API requirement levelis 30 (Android 11).
So, expect Android apps to finally learn some manners and ask for your permission in 2023.
