A team of researchers in Europe have successfully created a two-state system using time crystals.

The correct response to reading that is: eureka!

Up front:Time crystals are a recently discovered phase of matter.

Eureka! Scientists just linked two time crystals together for the first time

In their ground state, they oscillate between different configurations without losing or using energy.

As far as we can tell, this is the first time this has ever been done.

The exciting thing about this experiment is that it lays the groundwork forquantum computersoperating with time crystals as qubits.

A perpetual motion machine is something that, theoretically, could produce energy without consuming any.

As far as we know, this doesnt exist.

But, if it did, it would defy the laws of classical physics.

And, it would also eliminate the need for fuel or external power requirements.

However, in quantum physics perpetual motion is okay as long as we keep our eyes closed.

By sneaking through this crack we can make time crystals.

Regardless, a free lunch sure would be something to see.

And this research potentially brings us closer than weve ever been to it.

The promise of quantum computing at future-scale underwrites nearly every theoretical technology we aspire to one day create.
