I had a chance to spend some time with both devices during Samsungs Unpacked event.

This post is simply a collection of some thoughts after using the phones for a few minutes.

My very first impression was I want the smaller model.

It’s free, every week, in your inbox.

It makes for a noticeably better one-handed experience than Im used to from Note devices.

Aesthetically, the phones are a slight evolution of Samsungs design language its still very much a glass sandwich.

But at least the hardwarefeelsas nice as ever.

And in any case, smartphone specs offer diminishing returns by the year.

Its a good thing then that Samsung has one thing no-one else has: The S Pen.

How much youll actually end up using these features is a different matter.

Its at least a cool party trick.

I also spent some time checking out the camera.

Edge artifacts were clearly visible around a subject, and it seems to only work on people for now.

My favorite effect was one that made everything look like a 3D film VCR tape.

Also fun was the AR Doodle feature.

Its kind of like being able to draw your own Snapchat filters.

The Note 10+ did a solid job of keeping the objects locked into the environment, despite dim lighting.

But theres a lot more to the Note 10 than I was able to test in a short session.

The Note family is no longer just about crazy specs its about what you might do with them.
