So no black hole shadow was expected or seen in Centaurus As case.

It’s free, every week, in your inbox.

But radio waves are unaffected by this material, so radioastronomers can study its center in detail.

Here’s a badass picture of plasma jets shooting out of a supermassive black hole

Much of that material ends up falling into or orbiting around, the black hole.

These plasma jets are one of the most mysterious and energetic features of galaxies.

Centaurus A is one of the few examples for which both the jet and counter-jet havepreviously been seen.

Our team used an international data pipe of seven telescopes spanning North and South America and Antarctica.

(Australia sadly doesnt have the high-altitude observation sites necessary to make this kind of observation.)

The telescopes imaged the black holes jets in 16 times more detail than previous images.

Another source that has already been observed is the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

It will be interesting to see what our forthcoming observations reveal.
