To the surprise of no one, it didn’t go well.
Hal was his usual, reserved self.
Cashman on the other hand?

He chose to engage this media session with hostility.
He challenged any criticism fired his way and arrogantly dismissed his failures.
We’ll lead off with the money quote.

This was his response to being asked about the Yankees process and personnel who help make their everyday decisions.
He said “we’re pretty fucking good” when talking about the people making decisions for this team.
Keep in mind the Yankees finished 29th in the sport in hits this past year.
They were 6th fewest in runs/game.
They won 82 games, missed the now-expanded playoffs and nearly finished in last place of the division.
Since 2017 they’ve fallen further and further away from their goal of a World Series.
How stupid do you think we are?
Also yeah Cashman, you being here for a long time is not a good thing for the fans.
No need to question that one.
We all hate you.
Cashman doesn’t realize that most fans with a brain don’t want the Yankees to abandon analytics.
We just want them to emphasize different ones and take a different approach.
Michael Fishman being the brains behind their approach is a giant problem.
Aaron Judge has said this out loud recently.
They look at the wrong numbers.
Every team in baseball uses analytics.
Admitting we have the smallest analytical department in the division is not the brag you think it is.
All of this needs a complete makeover.
He then admitted he gets a kick out of people criticizing the Gallo and Sonny Gray trades.
With Gallo, why are you giving yourself a pass because he ended up on two playoff teams?
He wasn’t used on either squad in the postseason.
He offered no impact to either team.
Cashman is acting like Gallo lit it up in LA.
I don’t understand that response in any way.
Good on Joel for standing up here and not taking Cash’s bullshit.
To bring up Oswald Peraza’s lack of playing time also alludes to his poor roster construction.
If you have a log jam at a position then trade from that to improve weaker areas.
It’s not rocket science.
Instead Cashman will do his speciality and let Peraza rot on the bench.
It’s no secret that there is a disconnect between the minor league development and major league performance.
How can you not admit that?
Instead he’s gotta be an asshole and go at reporters who are clearly in the right.
And last but certainly not least, Cashman brought up injuries as his excuse for their failures in 2023.
For starters, you ever think it’s your process that leads to injuries year after year?
Also, does he not recognize every team deals with injuries?
Look at the Rays.
Their entire pitching staff was decimated this year.
Wander Franco didn’t play in the 2nd half.
They won 99 games.
One player shouldn’t derail your entire roster.
That’s all on Cashman, not the bad luck of health.
Earlier today Hal Steinbrenner said you shouldn’t need a $300M payroll to win the World Series.
The only way to get out of this hole is to buy.
There is no payroll flexibility here.
Stanton’s 4 years/$100M left on his deal is going nowhere.
This is gonna be a long offseason.
