Meta recently announced a long-term research partnership to study the human brain.

The big idea: Meta wants to understand exactly whats going on in peoples brains when they process language.

Then, somehow, its going to use this data to develop an AI capable of understanding language.

Meta’s new long-term AI study sounds a lot like OpenAI’s current dead-end

Now, the companys working with research partners to create its own databases.

It’s free, every week, in your inbox.

The plan is to create an end-to-end decoder for the human brain.

This would involve building a neural online grid capable of translating raw brainwave data into words or images.

And these similarities can help generate new insights about how the brain functions.

Meta is acting like following in OpenAIs footsteps here.

Just as its unclear how GPT-3, or any future text generators, will lead to AGI.

Its possible it could be useful in furthering our understanding of how the brain functions.

Theyre not teaching AI to understand speech, theyre teaching it to predict brainwave activity.

And, perhaps, its also time to considera different approachto AGI.
