Adopting robots makes profits drop before they rise, study finds

As demand for industrial robotssurges, new research suggests the rewards are slow to materialise. According to the Cambridge University study, robots typically cause early losses before they can yield a payoff. The researchers analysed industry data across 25 EU countries between 1996 and 2017. Theyfound that when adoption levels are low, robots can have a negative effect on profit margins. As the uptake increases, however, automation drives the profits higher....

Lollapalooza Is This Week In Chicago. Here Are The Bands And Acts You MUST SEE, And The Ones To Avoid

It’s that time of the summer again. Lollapalooza weekend is upon us. What used to be an all-out, absolute must-attend 2 day weekend grew into 3 days. And they may not be wrong. (No I was not at Woodstock ‘99, but I wish I was. My business partner Bobby went and said everything that they showed in that doc was 100% true. And he’d still do it all over again.)...

Love You Guys: On Leaving Pardon My Take

First off, I wish the best for the new venture in the Chicago office. The thing is that I am not motivated by typical reasons. I sent a resume which we have now found from the archives. Some information has been redacted. I also thought I would never get the job because I am not funny. I never thought I would ever get this job. But then I got an email two weeks later saying I got it....

The Cannons Are An Absolute Wagon This Year And There's Only One Reason Why

The Cannons have been on a tear over the last few weeks. In theory, that would be like the Kansas City Chiefs losing Patrick Mahomes for the year in August. So you’d figure the Cannons would be in for a lonnnnnng summer this year. But like I said, this team is a wagooooooon. They can’t be stopped right now. Which leads one to ask the question–are the Cannons actually better without Lyle Thompson?...

The Plan Comes Together: Mac Jones is Reverting to His Rookie Form in Bill O'Brien's System

And like every other team at this stage of the process, they are a work in progress. Every player on the roster and every unit on the team has had good days and bad. It’s a learning curve for everyone. Therefore, that’s exactly what I’m about to do. I say again, the most important acquisition in the NFL this year was the Pats adding Bill O’Brien. … At least with him, there is an obvious and immediate replacement....

France’s AFP sues Twitter over non-payments for displaying news

A bad week forElon Muskjust got even worse. The case stems from EU copyright reforms that became French law in 2019. Under the legislation, online platforms must remunerate publishers for distributing their content. The rules have proven controversial. Media outlets argue that their news provides engagement and ad revenue without sufficient compensation. But the platforms note that theyre already driving traffic to the publishers. It’s free, every week, in your inbox....

I Will Never Understand How Baltimore Orioles' Fans Aren't More Pissed Off With Their Ownership

I want to circle back on the Baltimore Orioles trade deadline because I love circling back. It makes absolutely ZERO sense to me that Orioles fans are okay with only adding Jack Flaherty. I don’t get it. I want to address the Cincinnati Reds as well but right now my head is in Baltimore. Jack Flaherty is a fine pitcher. And almost always batting command issues with sheer, raw talent....

Brian Cashman Chose To "Stay The Course" And Didn't Buy Or Sell At The Trade Deadline, As He Continues To Run The Yankees Into The Ground

The trade deadline came and went for the New York Yankees. Brian Cashman looked at the situation and decided to sit on his hands. This is all he could manage to come up with. Could you imagine being the graphics guy making that above tweet? Holy hell what a joke. I’m not sitting here screaming that they didn’t get Juan Soto or Shohei Ohtani. That would involve going into the market and finding a left fielder....

An Open Letter to The Aliens

There’s been a whole lot of alien talk on the internet lately. A whole bunch of wildly unsatisfying alien talk disguised as something interesting. The fact that we have these Air Force dudes giving first-ish hand accounts is sort of something. There’s definitely something fishy going on, and there are 100% aliens out there. But we’ve learned nothing we didn’t think was happening already. This isn’t an original idea or anything....
