Alienwares m17 is a hard laptop to pigeonhole.
For all appearances its just a bigger version of them15, but in practice its something entirely different.
Sure they look the same, but the smaller one only really competes against other gaming laptops.

The m17 feels built to take on all-comers.
The size
Bigger is usually better, but its also … well, bigger.
And this means the m17 isnt just for gamers with deep pockets.

Plus you’ve got the option to toss it in your backpack.
Well, youll need a big backpack, but at least its portable.
I think this is fantastic because it means theres more of the gorgeous red soft-touch material covering its lid.

For whatever reason, the screen is a bit swallowed up.
This thing is a monster.

Dont get me wrong though, its about the power too.
The VR titles were free of hiccups, tearing, and freezing a rare feat for a laptop.
And frame rates were consistent across the board over 100 for 1080p, over 60 for 4K.

The audio is passable.
I compensated by using headphones.
The fans arent quiet and, under the default power profile, theyre always on.

And I mean always.
This isnt a complaint, this computer is a monster and all similar laptops run hot.
But its something potential buyers should be aware of.

Especially if youre used to less powerful rigs.
If you like power, its got plenty crammed inside its relatively diminutive shell.
If all you care about is power: consider the Alienware Area m51 instead.
