Evidence of water vapor in the atmosphere of Jupiters moon Ganymede has been discovered for the first time.

Astronomers used data from NASAs Hubble Space Telescope to detect vapor rising from Ganymede.

The findings could offer new insights about the moons atmosphere.

Scientists detect water vapor in the atmosphere of Jupiter’s largest moon

Up front:Ganymede is the largest satellite in our solar system and three-quarters the size of Mars.

Scientists have speculated that the vast oceans belowits thick icy crust could host aquatic life.

These differences are directlycorrelated with where water would be expected in the moons atmosphere.

Quick take:The discovery doesnt offer much evidence about Ganymedes potential to host alien life.

It will, however, deepen our understanding of the moons atmosphere.

NASAsaid the discovery will also benefitthe JUICE missionto Jupiter.
