I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with cycling indoors.

But thanks to modern technology, its getting a lot more exciting.

Perhaps to the point where I only need to slap myself with a spatula to keep things interesting.

Smart trainers have made cycling indoors far less shit

It’s free, every week, in your inbox.

The Tacx Neo 2

The smart trainer Ive been using isnt the latest from Tacx.

Tacx first released the Neo 2 back in 2018, but its standing the test of time very well.

Other big hitters worth checking out are the Wahoo Kickr, and the Elite Drivo II.

Once youve got the wheel off, and your bike fitted, things couldnt be simpler.

Mounting your bike to this kind of trainer is pretty much the same as fitting a rear wheel.

Its good for athletes, its good for me

These magnets are also incredibly powerful.

The Tacx Neo 2 can generate 2,2000 watts of resistance and simulate gradients of up to 25%.

In other words, this is enough resistance for pretty much everyone in the world.

For the rest of us, the Neo 2 will never leave anyone wanting more.

According to Tacx, the Neo 2 is accurate to within 1%.

For me, it means Im training less, recovering more, and still making improvements.

I barely have to adjust the volume on my TV above normal levels.

But thanks to smart trainers, cycling indoors is far less shit than it used to be.
