It’s over, right?
The Mets are 35-42 and sit 15.5 games back of the division.
That was gone a month ago.The Atlanta Braves are just so much better.

But even the playoff hopes look about as healthy and robust as I do.
The Mets are sitting 8 games back of the final wild card spot.
$364 million dollars doesn’t buy what it used to.

This roster was always flawed.
I was too blinded and hopeful in the Justin Verlander signing to see it myself.
This is the same guy who traded JD Davis for Darin Ruf last year.
Davis is having a borderline All-Star season for the Giants.
Ruf has played for the Mets, Giants and Brewers since the Mets traded for him.
He hasn’t had a home run since the trade 11 months ago.
Eppler sucks and he’ll be gone by the off-season.
I can’t imagine pitching coach Jeremy Hefner will be with this team next year either.
He might even be canned by the All-Star break.
As for Buck Showalter?
But in the off-season?
I don’t see who that guy would be.
He seems like he struggles with analytics.
It looked like the game passed him by last year.
The last thing they should do is make any moves at the trading deadline unless it’s dumping players.
Trade David Robertson to someone who can use him.
Do the same thing with Mark Canha if you could.
DFA Daniel Vogelbach and let Mark Vientos DH the rest of the season.
This is a lost year.
I hope I am wrong but if they were any good, they’d have showed it by now.
They banked on older guys like Starling Marte and Justin Verlander and it blew up in their face.
This team is bad at all facets of the game.
They are 11th in the NL in Batting Average, OBP and Slugging Percentage.
There are only 15 NL teams.
People say their offense has improved in the past month.
The pitching sucks too.
They are 12th in the NL in ERA.
They also manage to pitch their worst when the Mets finally do score runs.
Meek Phill asked if any team in baseball history had a worse record when they score 6+ runs.
It’s actually worse than this because the Mets are now 13-12 after Sunday.
The 1930 Phillies had an ERA of 6.71 and went 52-102.
That’s not the company you want to keep.
We can all fight about what the primary reason was but the exact cause of death doesn’t matter.
This is an Elvis Presley situation.
A bunch of different shit could have killed him.
He’s still dead.
The last thing the Mets need to do is hurt the future.
Let the young guys play the rest of 2023 and let’s see what we have.
Then the Mets can reload for 2024.
I don’t say any of this lightly and I would love to be proven wrong.
I was at all three games in Philly.
