As big as modern TVs are, theres nothing quite like watching a movie on a giant projected image.

Thats where Ultra Short Throw (UST) Projectors come in.

You get the massive size of a projection with the plug-and-play convenience of a TV.

Vava’s 4K Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector is stunning and versatile, with a few caveats

The image is bright enough that I dont need to shut off the lights.

Which is a good thing, as you probably wouldnt have room for one on your media console.

For the gamers out there, Id call the display lag good enough for casual play.

Ill update this post if I can get a reliable display lag figure.

That said, there are some usability caveats which dampen the experience.

Theyre not dealbreakers, especially as most of themcouldbe addressed via software, but theyre worth noting nonetheless.

Prime Video didnt work for me at all.

Hulu isnt even on Aptoide.

I also lament the dumbed-down image parameters.

Like other projectors, the Vava gets significantly dimmer when displaying HDR content so you can maximize contrast.

The colors look great, but by default, its just too dark unless youre in a pitch-black room.

Considering nobody watches HDR contentonly, having to constantly adjust tweaks gets annoying really fast.

Most TVs have separate HDR picture options to avoid such headaches.

Lastly, I wish the projector included an IR receiver make it compatible with universal remotes.

I also dont understand why there arent any physical controls other than the power button on the unit itself.

Take serious care not to lose your remote.

You could buy a 75-85-inch TV for that kind of money, or a really good long-throw projector.

But lest I come off dismissive, let me also be clear that I really like this thing.

What a UST projector offers is versatility and convenience.

The other 4K UST projectors currently on the market are significantly more expensive.

The Vava 4K Projector is available fromAmazon for $2,699.
